The Film 'Together' Has Debuted on Streaming, and It Might Make or Break Your Relationship.

We present a challenge for long-term couples who appreciate the horror genre: Sit down with your partner and watch Together. The critically acclaimed 2025 movie has now made its launch on a streaming platform on the Hulu service. On the surface, it might appear like standard physical horror, but inside Together exists a profound contemplation about how we choose to love one another.

A Debut Feature Investigating Partnership Complexities

Together represents the introductory feature for filmmaker Michael Shanks. It showcases Dave Franco and Alison Brie as Tim and Millie, a pair who are not married that have remained a couple for over ten years. United in marriage in real life in 2017, the two stars contribute a particular energy to their portrayals, expertly portraying both the strengths and weaknesses of a enduring union.

The narrative starts when Millie and Tim transition from the urban environment to the countryside for Millie’s job. A somewhat stereotypical plot device, sure, but that’s largely where the conventions conclude. Together evolves into as much a deep dive into the psyche of the couple's dynamic as it is a movie featuring biological frights.

A Supernatural Catalyst

While walking near their rural residence, a storm hits, and the two tumble into an subterranean cavern. After spending the night there and finally finding a way out, a mysterious influence begins influencing the pair. This force compels a supernatural closeness between them that goes far beyond simple connection.

The entire film is a slow burn of scares, weaving in bits of dreamlike terrors, gross (but never too gross) physical transformations, and genuinely funny dialogue (sometimes amidst something horrific). The director orchestrates these parts expertly and delivers them in a consistently growing aura of dread.

Nuanced Portrayals

A significant portion of Together is solely the performances of its stars, and they deftly portray manifold depths to the characters’ relationship. Millie’s confidence and sense of connection is waning due to a emotional and physical gap. Her subconscious resentment of Tim for his reluctance to chase only his failing musical ambitions slowly bubbles to the surface.

Conversely, Tim feels trapped and separated by Millie, who’s the cause they’ve left the city and far away from his social circle. He dreads the concept of totally forfeiting his individual identity in another person. This fear is intensified by the reality he does not operate a vehicle and needs Millie for getting around.

The director's cleverest decision in this movie never makes Tim or Millie the obvious villain.

Both characters confront the type of challenges that are inherent in most partnerships a decade in. At their core, they continue to care for one another. They still laugh together, comfort one another, and share intimately at times. But below this facade, there’s an unavoidable undercurrent of doubt about their bond.

Allegory and Meaning

While the otherworldly presence in Together symbolize these concerns of unhealthy attachment and totally devoting oneself to a partner, the symbolism does not come across as hamfisted or self-important. Instead, these ickier, creepier moments provide a perfect parallel to the relationship narrative. Both the supernatural and the personal work together in harmony.

A Debated Finale

Together’s final act, which won’t be spoiled here, has sparked debate on the film’s ultimate message about enmeshed dynamics. Reports indicate that single viewers have seen the movie as a strong argument for staying single. Meanwhile, some couples who were in conflict found that the film ended up guiding them to resolve their issues.

Regardless of your relationship status, your own reaction could act as a revealing measure of how you perceive partnership. Will the conclusion inspire a sense of discomfort and fear, or a positive outlook on love? Will you recognize your own traits in Tim or Millie and feel frustration, or simply turn to your other half and say, “We could get through that together”?

Regardless of the outcome, Together is an test you can experience at this very moment.

Together is streaming on Hulu's platform now.
