Edmed is set to again guide the Wallabies in the playmaker role when they face the English side, while Gordon's eagerly awaited comeback to international rugby union has been postponed.

Gordon, who formerly represented Australia at the last World Cup before shock switch to league by signing with the Gold Coast Titans, has now been released from his National Rugby League deal to link up with the Wallabies on tour.

But, the 24-year-old is believed to be continuing to struggle with a quad strain picked up during training recently and will not feature from the team aiming to achieve consecutive victories over the English at Twickenham for the first occasion in 16 years.

Wallabies Confront Selection Challenges

The Australian side is undermanned, hampered by the restriction to select important foreign-based players such as their English-based award winner Ikitau, Hooper, and James O'Connor, whereas the hosts are at a full-strength lineup.

That has prompted criticism that the Australian team's effort to move up the World Rugby rankings before the upcoming pool draw for the hosted 2027 World Cup has been unfairly impacted, as the English can field each of their Premiership-based squad members.

Head Coach Schmidt Stays Confident

But, Australia coach Schmidt, fresh from leading a gritty victory against Japan with a largely backup squad, is still optimistic he has a winning team at his disposal, with several key players back to the lineup.

"The coaches have sought to balance this year's demanding schedule in terms of international games and travel commitments, so it was great to freshen a few players up last week and we hope that enables the team to be highly competitive on Saturday," stated the coach.

Key Comebacks and Partnerships

Tighthead prop Taniela Tupou is back in the starting side for the first time since the opening Bledisloe Cup match in New Zealand, and captain Wilson takes the No 8 jersey once more, making up a well-known strong loose forward trio with Rob Valetini and Fraser McReight.

NSW Waratahs teammates Gordon and Edmed start in the half-back positions for the third consecutive international, and Paisami will partner in midfield with Joseph-Aukuso Suaalii, back to the venue of his remarkable union debut the previous season.

Max Jorgensen, the last-gasp hero that day with his decisive score, features once more, and Potter is called upon to contribute his bit of magic on the opposite wing.

Lukhan Salakaia-Loto has bounced back from a rib complaint and will provide cover at second row, while Champion de Crespigny, the captain versus Japan, is included as a loose forward replacement.
